Abstract

Nature- and community-based tourism companies are now growing rapidly in Indonesia, but cost management and performance in locally scaled destination tourism businesses still face various challenges. Hopeland Camp in Salak, Bogor is one example of a tourism business that seeks to combine tourism business development with the culture of the local community. This study aims to analyze in-depth the factors that influence business growth in tourism development by taking the case study of Hopeland Camp. The research approach used is qualitative, employing a case study method, namely through interviews with management and tourists as well as direct field observations. The findings show that Hopeland Camp’s operating costs are influenced by internal factors such as operational needs like physical materials, logistics, labor, facility maintenance, as well as considering external factors such as accessibility, government policies, and cooperation with outside parties. Social investment in the local community also becomes a long-term strategy to support the sustainability of the business. Meanwhile, Hopeland Camp’s performance is determined by service quality, operational efficiency, the level of tourist satisfaction, local community involvement, and external factors such as nature-based tourism trends, destination competition, and infrastructure support. These findings reinforce the theory of sustainable tourism and the approach of Community-Based Tourism (CBT), which emphasize that the success of tourism enterprises is not only determined by economic aspects, but also by the synergy between management, the community, and the environment. This study contributes to understanding cost management and business performance in the local-scale tourism sector, and can serve as a reference in formulating strategies for developing community-based tourism enterprises that are competitive and sustainable.
