Abstract
Despite Indonesia’s position as the Muslim-majority country with the largest population, BUS’s role in its banking sector is still under 10%, which provides the impetus for this research. The main problem lies in the lack of optimal implementation of Porter's generic strategy of differentiation, cost leadership, and focus and lack of integration with technological innovation as a variable that strengthens performance. In the context of digital disruption and increasing competition with conventional banks and fintech, this research is important to evaluate and formulate adaptive and data driven strategies. The theoretical framework used to explain the relationship between variables, as well as the results of previous research is relevant to show the position and contribution of this research in the literature. This study applies a quantitative approach with a correlational research design, which is analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares (SEM - PLS) method through SmartPLS software. Primary data was obtained through a five-point Liker-based closed questionnaire distributed to managers and strategic staff of 14 active Sharia Commercial Banks. The research instrument was developed from theories that have been validated, tested through pilot studies, and evaluated using validity and reliability tests. The analysis was carried out in stages through testing the outer model (measurement model) and inner model (structural model) to determine the direct and indirect relationships, as well as the effect of technological innovation interaction on the relationship between variables. Based on the results of the evaluation of the outer model and inner model, this study concludes that the entire construct of the Differentiation Strategy, Cost Leadership Strategy, Focus Strategy, Technology Innovation, and Performance has been proven to be statistically valid and reliable, and has high predictive ability. The cost leadership strategy and focus directly have a significant impact on the performance of Sharia Commercial Banks (BUS), while the differentiation strategy only has an impact through the mediation of technological innovation. Technological innovation itself plays an important role as a strengthening of the effectiveness of strategies in driving performance, especially in the context of digital transformation of Islamic banking. The research model shows good feasibility based on fit indicators (SRMR, NFI, R², F², and Q²), and is able to explain most of the variability in BUS performance, so it is suitable as a reference in the formulation of management strategies and technology development in the Islamic banking industry. This study advances scientific knowledge while also offering practical guidance for business school management, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
